Setting:  stereotypical American high school.

Characters: Teenager female and Teenage male. Teachers, pupils and female characters parents.

Mise en scene: casual clothing for main character, uniform for rest of cast.

INT. SCHOOL – ENTRANCE - MORNING

                        POV of Jennifer walking into school building, doors open in front of her. Jennifer approaches reception desk.

JENNIFER       (V.O.) Of course this isn’t how it starts. My name is Jennifer Williams; today is my first day at my new school, for about the hundredth time in the last five years. My parents move around a lot. You’d think that by now I wouldn’t be nervous, but I am.

                        Mr Adams hands Jennifer a bunch of books etc

MR Adams      “Welcome to Landau. Your locker number is 187A. Here’s everything you’ll need. Have fun!”

                        Mrs Collins exits abruptly, leaving Jennifer with her arms full of the things she’s been given.

JENNIFER                   (to herself, sarcastically) “Great.”

                        Jennifer looks around and the other pupils, all dressed in preppy uniform, stare at her.

Jennifer      (walks through school unaware of her surroundings, bumps into a very attractive young man and drops everything all over the floor)

           “Oh urm aha”

Scott Turner      (bends down to help pick up her stuff)

            (Picks up Jennifer’s belongings and hands them to her)

           “You’re the new girl aren’t you? I’m Scott,”

Jennifer      “Urm I’m Jennifer but everyone calls me Jenny for short.”

Scott          Well I’ll see you around

            Scott walks down the hall.

INT. SCHOOL – BY LOCKERS – MOMENTS LATER

                        Jennifer finds her locker after some confusion. She opens it and puts some of her books in, then closes it to see a girl (Rosie) leaning against the lockers, with two others (Amy and George) beside her.

ROSIE             Oh my God, are you the new girl?!

Jennifer            Urm yes.

ROSIE              Whats your name

JENNIFER        Jennifer but my friends call me jenny

ROSIE          Oh im Rosie and this is Tyrone.

Tyrone          Hi girl I like your shoes where are they from, JD? Nike? Addidas? They really suit you!

Jennifer          Urm

Preliminary Task Evaluation

I learnt a lot about Adobe Premiere as I’ve never used it before. I’ve always edited anything on Sony Vegas on a PC and not a MAC. I learn how to cut clips down to the time frame necessary, add transitions, titles, change the lighting levels & contrast as well as change the time scale of some of the shots so they are now in slow motion in comparison to what they were before. This will help me to edit anything in the future more successfully and to a higher standard than I already have done.

The 180 degree rule:
If you can imagine an actor walking you can imagine a line they are walking on with the 180 degree rule you choose one side of this line and you stick to that one side as all coverage should generally be shot from one side or the other of this imaginary line. The audience subconsciously forms a mental map of where the actors are located in the scene this allows the audience to become more a part of the scene and in whole, the movie itself, if you were to cross this imaginary line then your view becomes jumbled as everything you have mentally mapped has now flipped over which cause you to become disorientated with the entire scene.

The close up:

The use of a close up is to give the audience a full experience with the emotions that are being shown by a character, it is said that the face is an actors tool so the close up of the face is perhaps one of the most important building blocks for a story.

The Two-shot:

This shot is used to establish a link between two people, in the case of our Preliminary Task it is in place to establish the connection between Liam and Alex as with them both in the frame they show both equal importance and hint that there may be more of the story revolving around them.

The Filming process did not go as well as we would have hoped due to all 3 of our actors were not very experienced with acting so the task shows a very amateur acting job done, we would have wished to let it come across as better but with in our group we had to deal with shyness and the lack of focus when filming the scenes, our locations were perfect for what we wanted as we were able to let Mr.Lobo lend us his office to film in. the editing was rather shoddy as we all had input instead of one person checking it over and editing, due to 4 people editing one clip, large mistakes were missed and left in for example, my voice is heard in a scene counting Paige in to meet Alex which should have been cut out but wasn't. The last scene took multiple attempts to film due to both acting issues and technical issues with the camera as when we were about to film our final take which we thought would have been the perfect take, the camera battery ran out so we had to wait for it to charge and then film the scene again which came out the other side as we wished it to. In conclusion the final cut turned out not as good as we expected but we may have wished too much of it and not focused as much as we should

I learnt much about Adobe Premiere as I am used to using Sony Vegas on my PC and not using a mac so it was difficult at first to navigate my way around the mac but after a while I have got used to it and can navigate my way around easily.

What is Film Noir?

Film Noir (French for 'dark film' or 'black film') is a term describing a genre popular in the US between 1940 and 1960. Strictly speaking its a description of the films style and mood rather than a so-called genre however it has evolved and more recent films using the same codes and conventions may be referred to as 'neo-noir'.

How did the 'golden age of Hollywood' reinforce genres?

The 'Golden Age of Hollywood' is when they realised that they could make so much money from essentially producing the same films over and over again. There were five major companies who did this are ;

1) Warner Bros.

2) Columbia Pictures

3) 20th Century Fox

4) MGM (Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer)

5) RKO Pictures

                   Which genres became popular in Hollywood?

The genres that became popular were Westerns, Romances, comedies and film-noirs all because they delivered what the audience wanted and was pleasurable to watch as it fulfilled what they were asking for and played with their imagination.

Why do audiences like genre films? 

Audiences like genre film because it gives them a rough run down of what it is they're actually going to see without having to read any information about the film. For example, if they went to see a western they know there'd be outlaws, native American's and sheriffs and obviously the sheriff would come out on top at the end of the day. 

Film Noir

Film noir is a genre of film that is very easy to identify due to its clear codes and conventions. It was also very successful during the 'Golden Age of Hollywood' due to it's misogynistic views which easily related to the majority of males in that time period as it was a social norm. Women were portrayed as either prostitutes or victims and never given a leading role however Film Noir is becoming less popular due to the changes in society and women being seen as equals therefore modern film noir's such as the sin city series challenge the codes and conventions by adding in new features and a lot more action. They also make the style like that of a comic which adds a new dimension to the film as they don't necessarily have to keep it realistic and they haven't, giving one of the main protagonists super powers.

The characters in a Film Noir are usually corrupt cops, the femme fatale and an alienated protagonist. There also generally misogynistic men due to the time period that its set in and because when Film Noir popular society itself was misogynistic. A lot of the film, if not all of the film is set at night or whilst it's raining. This represents the themes of the film and is also pathetic fallacy for events that are going to happen in the film.

Representations in Horror and Thriller have been pre-established, some of the representations in the films have become stereotypes (a widely held but fixed and over simplified image of a particular type of person or thing) or archetypes (a very

 Zombieland opening scene:

In the Horror genre there are a lot of stereotypes such as women are fragile and weak and men are normally brave and strong. In the film Zombieland which is a production by Columbia Pictures the codes of conventions are tested as the main Female protagonist is shown as a very strong independent character and the main male protagonist is shown as rather weak but still brave.

This Opening scene starts with a woman crashing through her wind-shield and crashing onto the ground in front of her followed by an birds eye view shot showing the writing 'Rule #4: Always wear a seatbelt' this is all done whilst the main protagonist is performing a voice over. The entire opening scene is actually the main protagonist listing off his 'Rules' to survive the Zombie apocalypse.

For the second scene a worms-eye view is used to show a man being thrown over the railings by what is clearly a zombie, this is all done at what seems half speed to add a dramatic effect to the entire scene, after 5 second the scene fades into a zombie spitting blood out of his mouth which then instantly fades into a woman running from a separate zombie also at half speed, just from her emotion portrayed on her face you can tell how much danger has so suddenly been inflicted on her world and how she is so forcefully trying to run away from what was once her life.

Every scene after the first scene is all shown at half speed for dramatic effect and these scene mostly show people fleeing from the zombie outbreak but some also show the Humans fighting back against the Apocalypse. this sets up the mood for the film as you as an audience are shown what is happening and how badly it has happened with in what seems a small time.

The main protagonists are not shown yet in the opening scene as they have yet to be introduced with in the storyline.
